In 2008: "The American Refugee Committee’s president, Hugh Parmer, is leaving the organization after six years of dedicated service on behalf of the refugees and displaced persons we serve worldwide. Hugh will be joining the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs as a research fellow with its regional planning and policy area, where he will explore disaster relief issues, such as the interaction of nongovernmental agencies with local jurisdictions in the event of natural catastrophes."
