HoReCa is a European acronym for an association of "Hotels, Restaurants and Casinos" which includes operators of cafes and caterers in the European Economic Community. It is also seen spelled in tobacco industry documents as "Ho.Re.Ca" or referred to as the Horeca sector.
Businesses or individuals pay membership dues to belong to HoReCa.
The tobacco industry developed a very close alliance with the organization in its battle to block potential bans on smoking in restaurants and other public venues. The distribution of Healthy Buildings International magazine (which was funded and controlled by Philip Morris) was one example of this relationship. [1]
