Biographical Information

"George K. Russell holds the A.B. in Biology (1959) from Princeton University and the Ph.D. in Biology (1963) from Harvard. For 30 years he has taught Biology at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY where he is Professor of Biology and Director of Graduate Studies in Biology.

"He is one of the founders and Editor-in-Chief of Orion: People and Nature, a quarterly magazine devoted to helping readers form an affirmative relation with the natural world. He has also written extensively on the use of animals in education (Vivisection and the True Aims of Education in Biology, Biology: The Study of Life, and Reverence for Life: An Ethic for High School Biology Teaching).

"His Manual, Laboaratory Investigations in Human Physiology (MacMillan, 1978) which avoids the use of harmful experimentation on animals was used extensively for many years. He has also written and lectured extensively on substance abuse, and his monograph "Marihuana Today" (The Myrin Institute, 1975 and later editions) sold several hundred thousand copies.

"He served for many years as Secretary and Board Member of the American Council for Drug Education. He has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Waldorf School of Garden City and was a Chairman of the Board from 1983-1995.

"George teaches in the Anthroposophical Studies and the Arts program in Garden City, NY."[1]
