George David Kieffer

"Widely recognized as one of the top strategic legal minds in California, Mr. Kieffer has extensive general business and regulatory practice experience and oversees major business litigation, business transactions, government-related, and land use matters. He chairs the firm’s Government & Regulatory Policy Division and is regularly engaged to address major strategic legal and policy issues for businesses and public entities. In that role, he works with a broad variety of practice groups and specialists within the whole firm. Mr. Kieffer serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and on the Board of Directors of ManattJones Global Strategies, LLC, an international consulting firm and wholly owned affiliate of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. Mr. Kieffer is the lead partner in representing the following, among others: AT&T, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., BNSF Railway Company, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Carter & Burgess, Forest City Residential West, Inc., and Goldman, Sachs & Co. In previous years, he has represented a consortium of the largest accounting firms in connection with securities law reform, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power in connection with State legislative energy hearings, and a number of companies in connection with government procurement disputes.

"Mr. Kieffer has been called upon to undertake various significant civic and public assignments, including successfully chairing the commission charged with rewriting the Los Angeles City Charter. The new City Charter, the first full revision in 75 years, was adopted in 1999. In 2000, Mr. Kieffer was named by the San Francisco Daily Journal and the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the 100 most influential attorneys in California, and he was listed in The Best Lawyers in America, 2005-2006 edition.

"Among other boards and commissions, Mr. Kieffer chairs the Los Angeles Civic Alliance and serves on the Board of Directors of Promerica Bank, the first Latino-owned bank to be chartered in Los Angeles in over 35 years. Mr. Kieffer is a former Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Mayor’s Council of Economic Advisors. An active Democrat, he has served as an informal policy advisor to both Democrats and Republicans." [1]
