Gates Foundation Grants for Land Reform

Gates Foundation Grants for Land Reform are grants given by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support advocacy for land reform around the world. Specifically, much of the advocacy funded was in India, where Gates money set up an office to work toward land reform. These are mostly grants given by the Gates Foundation prior to 2005, when the foundation became heavily involved in agriculture. Altogether, $24,225,000 - or 99.6% of grants for land reform - was given between 1997 and 2004.

Annual donations toward land reform efforts are as follows:

  • 1997: 450,000
  • 1999: $5,825,000
  • 2001: $1,450,000
  • 2003: $5,500,000
  • 2004: $11,000,000
  • 2008: $9,500
  • 2009: $29,000
  • 2010: $50,000
  • 2011: $10,000
  • Total: $24,323,500
