Gabriella Buescher
Gabriella S. Buescher is Director of the International League for Human Rights Africa Program. "She focuses on enhancing the capacity of local civil society and legal institutions in Africa to increase the level of protection for civilians. Prior to joining the League, she has worked for fifteen years for the UN and United Nations agencies (UNICEF, UNDP) in NY and at field posts in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Her extensive career includes work in Angola, Sudan, Somalia, South Africa, Kenya, Iraq and Colombia, as an expert in humanitarian assistance and policy, early warning, emergency preparedness, rehabilitation, and child protection issues. She holds a BA in journalism from the University of Texas, a Master's in political philosophy from Queen's University in Canada, and later studied international law and human rights at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. An English and Italian native speaker, she is also fluent in Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese." [1]
