Frank Lanau was a British industrial hygienist who was closely associated with Professor Roger Perry, George B Leslie and Francis JC Roe in the creation and control of the Associates for Research on Indoor Air (ARIA) and Indoor Air International (IAI) for the tobacco industry.

Philip Morris paid these four (and about twenty others to a lesser degree) to work as recruiters and undercover scientific advocates of their pro-smoking position. They were always to maintain that they were independent scientists, and never admit any financial involvement with the cigarette companies. Frank Lanau was usually given the job of President of any organisations they created while George Leslie was the administrator along with his wife Kathleen (who generally ran the publishing side, with the journals).
