Biographical Information

"Mr. Pelekamoyo has been a member of the Board since Jan 2008. Mr. Pelekamoyo's career in banking spans 35 years in which he joined the Reserve Bank of Malawi (Central Bank) and ultimately took the helm as Governor of the Central Bank. In this role, he was primarily responsible for issuing legal tender currency; helping to maintain a stable economic and financial structure in Malawi and ensuring sufficient resources were available to the private sector. Mr. Pelekamoyo received his BSc (Chemistry and Economics) at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. He also holds a Diploma in Monetary Economics at St. Andrews University, Edinburgh Scotland and a MA in Economics at Yale University - USA. Since leaving the Reserve Bank of Malawi, he has served on twenty boards within the microfinance and banking industry including Opportunity International partners in Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi and Ghana."
