Florigene "uses genetic modification technology to bridge genetic gaps and rapidly deliver valuable improvements to flower species. The improvements to flowers – whether in shape, colour, vase life, disease resistance or other characteristics – have historically been achieved by cross-breeding of existing varieties." [1]

"Florigene was founded in Melbourne in 1986 as Calgene Pacific Pty Ltd. The name was changed to 'Florigene' in 1994 after the Company acquired the assets of its primary competitor, Florigene B.V., a company incorporated in Holland. The Company's research centre and corporate headquarters are in Melbourne." [2]

"In December 2003 Florigene became part of the Suntory group of companies."
