Engineered Support Systems (ESS) was founded in 1982 by Michael F. Shanahan, Sr. and commenced operations as Engineered Air Systems, Inc. (EAS) as manufacturer of military support equipment. ESS consists of six operating units:

  • Tamsco: Technical and Management Services Corporation (TAMSCO), a Calverton, Maryland-based provider of information technology (IT) logistics and digitization services and a designer and integrator of telecommunications systems primarily for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). TAMSCO was acquired by the Company in 2003.
  • Systems & Electronics (SEI): Headquartered in St. Louis, MO, Systems & Electronics Inc. (SEI) is a leading designer and manufacturer of military support equipment including aircraft loading systems, heavy transportation systems, fire-control support systems, radar systems, specialized avionics testing equipment and material handling equipment. SEI's manufacturing facility is located in West Plains, MO. SEI was acquired by the Company in 1999.
  • Keco Industries (KECO): Operating from facilities in Florence, KY and Blue Ash, OH, Keco Industries, Inc. (Keco) engineers and manufactures military support equipment including environmental control systems, water purification systems and refrigeration equipment. Keco was acquired by the Company in 1998.
  • Engineered Environments, Inc. (EEi): Operating from a facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, Engineered Environments is a well established company that provides engineering and manufacturing of customized air conditioners, heat exchangers, chillers, air filtration systems, environmental control units and aircraft ground support equipment for use in commercial and military industries. EEi was acquired by the Company in 2003.
  • Engineered Air Systems (EAS): Located in St. Louis, MO, Engineered Air Systems, Inc. (EAS) is the charter Engineered Support Systems operating unit. EAS designs and engineers a wide range of military support equipment including nuclear/biological/chemical defense systems, environmental control systems and water storage, purification and distribution systems.
  • Radian Inc. (RADIAN): Radian is a full-service engineering and technical support services provider with three divisions: Engineering, Advanced Technology and Asset Protection Systems. The Engineering Division has a 22-year history of providing comprehensive support to Department of Defense (DoD) weapon system managers. The Advanced Technology Division applies leading edge technology by combining traditional engineering practices with state-of-the-art automation tools. The Asset Protection Systems Division provides government and commercial clients the full spectrum of protection to human, physical plant, and information resources assets. Radian was acquired by the Company in 2002.
  • Engineered Coil/Marlo Coil (MARLO): Engineered Coil/Marlo Coil, (Marlo Coil) a leading designer and manufacturer of custom engineered coils, refrigeration plants and air handling units, was acquired by the Company in 1998. Marlo Coil is the largest supplier of marine coils, air-handling units, product coolers and refrigeration plants to the U.S. Navy. Its operations are located in High Ridge, MO.
  • Universal Power Systems, Inc. (UPSI): UPSI designs, manufactures and sells true on-line UPS systems and power conditioning equipment that meet the demanding standards of portability and functionality in hazardous and harsh environments around the globe. UPSI focuses on transportable, deployable, rack-mount, single-phase units in the 650VA (volt amperes) to 6000VA power range. Since its founding in 1989, UPSI has fielded in excess of 12,000 units in over 100 countries and its equipment has been used extensively in several military engagements including Desert Storm, Panama, Somalia, Bosnia and Kosovo. UPSI was acquired by the company in 2002.
  • Engineered Electric/Fermont (FERMONT): Located in Bridgeport, CT, Engineered Electric/Fermont (Fermont) is the leading supplier of military generator sets and power systems to the U.S. military. Fermont was acquired by the Company in 1999.
  • ESSIbuy.com (ESSIbuy): To provide America's Warfighters access to a wide range of logistics support services, the Company has launched its e-commerce initiative, ESSIbuy.com (ESSIbuy). Through ESSIbuy, military customers can procure spare and replacement parts, contract for maintenance, training or engineering services and review proprietary interactive electronic training manuals (IETMs) on-line for a host of Engineered Support's military support and electronics products. ESSIbuy.com was established by the company in 2001.
