Elizabeth Heagy

Elizabeth Heagy "is the principle of Elizabeth Heagy Consulting and a Senior Associate at Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership (housed at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute). Her specialization is building nonprofit organizations aligned with strategic vision and goals by honing focus; developing effective management practices; cultivating resources and partnerships; and increasing public policy engagement.

"Heagy most recently served as the President and CEO of the Center for Lobbying in the Public Interest (“CLPI”), leading CLPI in its growth as the go-to organization on nonprofit advocacy issues. She is the author of numerous articles on nonprofit lobbying and advocacy, including the well-received "Building Capacity for Public Policy Advocacy" in the Alliance for Nonprofit Management's Enhance newsletter. Before joining CLPI in 2001, Heagy practiced labor and employment litigation in the Atlanta office of the international law firm Jones Day where she conducted numerous trainings on employment legal issues.

"She was also the Executive Director of the Virginia Campus Outreach Opportunity League (VA COOL) from 1992 to 1995 where she worked with over 65 Virginia institutions of higher education to establish service-learning programs, delivering education through interactive training. Through her work as a government relations staff assistant at INDEPENDENT SECTOR from 1991 to 1992, as well as through her active role in the passage of the National Community Service and Trust Act of 1994, Heagy witnessed firsthand the influence of public policy on nonprofits' ability to effectively achieve their missions.

"She has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Chicago and has guest-lectured at multiple high education institutions, including American University, Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Pennsylvania. Heagy is a graduate of the University of Mary Washington and Temple University School of Law and is a member of the DC Bar."
