Biographical Information
"Elizabeth Harris-Sawczenko is currently the Public Affairs Director at the Board of Deputies of British Jews. She was raised and educated in the UK and returned three years ago to London, after spending over two decades in Jerusalem. She graduated from Leeds University, where she served as the President of the Soviet Jewry Society. She then worked briefly for Lord Greville Janner on the All Party War Crimes Committee before making Aliya.... She subsequently worked as Director of Seminars in the Overseas Department of MELITZ, designing educational programmes and leading missions in both Israel and Eastern Europe. In this capacity, Elizabeth was chosen to participate in an EU-funded programme entitled 'People to People', that brought Jewish and Arab educators together to exchange professional experiences.
"In 2001 Elizabeth was appointed as a Director within the New Israel Fund’s Jerusalem office. In this post she was availed of unique insights into Israeli society, working with its entire spectrum: Arabs (including Bedouin, Druze, Muslims and Christians), Immigrants (Ethiopian and FSU immigrants), Disabled people, Single Parent mothers, Ultra-Orthodox Jews, Religious Zionists and Environmentalists.
