Elcio P. Guimarães
- "Elcio P. Guimarães has a degree in plant breeding from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA. He worked as rice breeder at Embrapa, Brazil, and at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), Colombia for more than 15 years. He has been working for FAO since 2001 in the area of plant breeding and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. During the initial years he had assessed the national plant breeding capacity worldwide; this work led to the launching of [The Global Partnership Initiative for Plant Breeding Capacity Building (GIPB)] in 2006. Elcio has been leading the GIPB Initiative since its inception until April 2010. He is now Research Area Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at CIAT."[1]
