Dr. Glenn Tong "is the Principal and Director of BiotechSmarts Consulting, a company that provides strategic advice to biotechnology companies.

"Glenn graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 1989 from the School of Chemistry and a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Science and The Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Physiology and Medicine, University of Melbourne, Australia in 1994, followed by an appointment as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Technical University of Denmark from 1994 to 1995.

"Glenn has experience in commercialising biotechnology, forming strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. His scientific research has spanned a range of important bioorganic chemistry disciplines, resulting in nine peer-reviewed journal articles and a book chapter, a PCT patent application, and numerous invited lectures at international conferences and business forums.

"During the mid-90s, Glenn co-founded AudA Pharmaceuticals ApS in Denmark, one of the first combinatorial chemistry drug discovery companies in Europe and the first biotechnology company successfully spun off from The Danish Technical University.

"In 1997, Glenn founded Pacific Oligos Pty Ltd., the first high throughput DNA synthesis company in Australia. As the CEO of Pacific Oligos, Glenn was instrumental in winning a leading market position and overseeing a successful merger with Genset SA (the largest DNA synthesis company in the world at that time). Glenn served as CEO and Managing Director of the merged company, Genset Pacific Pty. Ltd., until his move to Genetic Technologies Limited, a biotechnology company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, in April 2001.

"Glenn was appointed Managing Director (Commercial) of AgGenomics Pty. Ltd., a joint venture company between Genetic Technologies and the Victorian Government, in April 2002, a position that he held until November 2004.

"In August 2003, Glenn was invited to join the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and in January 2003, Glenn was appointed Co-Chair of the Victorian Branch Committee of the peak industry body for Australian biotechnology companies, AusBiotech Ltd. Glenn accepted an invitation from AusBiotech Ltd. to participate as a member of the Ag Bio Advisory Group in May 2004. In addition, Glenn has also accepted a number of invitations to participate in expert advisory groups and trade delegations." [1]
