Downhill Battle is an ambitious young activist group "working to end the major label monopoly and build a better, fairer music industry", through boycotts and civil disobedience of copyright law.
Campaigns
Downhill Battle has engaged in a number of campaigns.
- Banned Music, a peer to peer collaboration in an attempt to make it impossible for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to ban certain works/music.
- Grey Tuesday, an effort to distribute the Grey Album (a remix of Jay Z's Black ALbum and the Beatles white album done by a dj named Danger Mouse) after the Beatles label sent a cease and desist order to its creator.
- P2P Defense Fund, a legal defense fund for those who have been sued my the RIAA for music sharing.
Non-advocacy work
Downhill Battle is also engaged in freeware development, with a focus on p2p tools as well as tools for non-profits (such as donation and store back ends).
