Douglas Bevington

Douglas Bevington "is the Forest Program Director for Environment Now, a grantmaking foundation in California. He previously worked as the Regional Organizer for the John Muir Project of Earth Island Institute and as the Biodiversity Program Assistant for the Foundation for Deep Ecology. He has also been active with the Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters, Center for Biological Diversity, Endangered Species Coalition, Sierra Club, and the Student Environmental Center. Doug holds a PhD in sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His dissertation, titled "The Rebirth of Environmentalism: Grassroots Activism and the New Conservation Movement, 1989-2004," examined the influence of grassroots forest and wildlife protection groups on environmental policy in the United States." His PhD was completed in 2007 and his advisors were Andrew Szasz (Chair), Barbara Epstein, and Richard Flacks.
