Biographical Information
"Derek joined the board of The Drinkaware Trust as Chairman at the beginning of 2009. Among his other activities he is Chairman of JHP Group, a major provider of vocational training and employability services; a Director of Protocol Associates, a leading provider of services to schools and colleges in the UK; and a Trustee of WRVS, a charity which delivers practical support to older people. His business career began with Ford Motor Company in the UK, Germany and the USA, followed by the Imperial Group, before joining Granada Group as Finance Director and later as Chief Executive. Having been closely involved in the launch of satellite television in the UK, he led the team that created UK Gold Television, becoming Non-Executive Chairman. He was then appointed as Director-General of the Prison Service in England and Wales in 1993 and Principal Policy Adviser on prisons to the Home Secretary. Following the Prison Service, he worked with the cable television industry on the launch of digital services and was subsequently Chairman of Sunsail International plc and Patientline plc."[1]
