David A. Sampson
David Allan Sampson, of Texas, was appointed April 1, 2005, by President George W. Bush to be Deputy Secretary, Department of Commerce. His nomination was sent to the Senate April 4, 2005, and he was confirmed July 22, 2005. Just prior to his Senate confirmation, President Bush appointed Sampson as Acting Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Commerce Department.
On June 16, 2005, prior to his confirmation, President Bush nominated Sampson as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). [1]
Sampson was nominated March 19, 2001, by President Bush to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, a position he held at the time of his appointment to Deputy Secretary.

Sampson "previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer for the Arlington, Texas Chamber of Commerce. Earlier in his career, Dr. Sampson served as Chairman of the Texas Council on Workforce and Economic Competitiveness and as Vice Chair of the Texas Strategic Economic Development Planning Commission. He earned his bachelor's degree from David Liscomb University, his master's degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Abilene Christian University." [2]
