Dan Morales (Attorney General of TX)

Daniel Morales served as Texas Attorney General from 1991 to 1999.

During his time as Attorney General, Morales represented the state of Texas in a lawsuit against the tobacco industry seeking to reimburse Texas for tobacco related healthcare costs incurred by the state. The suit was concluded with an out of court settlement in which the tobacco industry agreed to pay over $17 billion to Texas.[1] In 2003, Dan Morales was charged with fraud and sentenced to four years in prison after fraudulently obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars from the tobacco settlement.[2]
