Biographical Details

"Born in New York City on July 16, 1938, Cynthia H. Enloe received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1967. Since 1972 she has been professor of government at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts; in 1980-1982 she served as the department chair. A member of the university's Sexual Harassment Task Force, 1980-1981, CHE gathered these papers to document the issues and lawsuits arising from charges of sexual harassment directed by sociology professor Ximena Bunster, against a fellow faculty member, Sidney Peck. CHE was also a member of the Committee for Fairness to Ximena Bunster. In time, the conflict came to divide the left, and there was a debate as to what role, if any, Peck was to play in organizing the march for a nuclear freeze held in New York City on June 12, 1982."

Enloe’s twelve books include Bananas, Beaches and Bases: Making Feminist Sense of International Politics (2000), Maneuvers: The International Politics of Militarizing Women’s Lives (2004), and Globalization and Militarism: Feminists Make the Link (2007). Her newest book is Nimo’s War, Emma’s War: Making Feminist Sense of the Iraq War (forthcoming from University of California Press, spring, 2010)
