Culex pipiens, the Northern House mosquito, is one of the most common mosquito species found in urban areas in North America.[1] It is believed to be responsible for transmitting West Nile virus to humans, birds, and other mammals. Mosquitoes of the Culex genus "are painful and persistent biters also, but prefer to attack at dusk and after dark."[2]
