"In 1970, the governments of Puerto Rico and the United States founded the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico, a private, non-profit institution dedicated to protect and enhance the Island’s natural resources through the acquisition of land of ecological, aesthetic, historic, and cultural value. During its first ten years, the Trust received funds from U.S. tariffs paid by the petrochemical companies operating on the Island." [1]
