"Cognita was formed in 2004 by Englefield Capital LLP, Sir Chris Woodhead and the Executive Team. Englefield Capital LLP was later renamed Bregal Capital LLP in February 2010." [1]

In 2009 it was reported that: "Cognita, the UK private schools group, could be set to change hands. The group is owned by Englefield Capital, the private equity firm. Investors in the firm's funds include broadcaster Sir David Frost, former Nato secretary-general Lord Robertson, and the Brenninkmeijer family, who own retailers C&A. Now, the Financial Times reports, the Brenninkmeijers have offered to buy out the other investors. The family already own Englefield Capital LLP, the company set up to manage the fund." [2]
