Biographical Information

Clare Hollingsworth joined the Board of Go-Ahead as Non-Executive Chairman Designate on 1 August 2019 before becoming Non-Executive Chairman of the Group on 31 October 2019. "Clare has extensive Board experience both at executive and non-executive level across a range of sectors, including safety critical businesses in rail, aviation and healthcare. Worked nationally and internationally, and within different ownership models. Significant stakeholder management experience, including across regulators and UK Government. Former Non-Executive Chairman of Eurostar International Ltd, Non-Executive Director at Savills plc and Assura plc and CEO of Caledonian Airways Ltd, Bupa Hospitals Ltd and Spire Healthcare Ltd." [1]

"Clare is a non-executive director of the Virgin Healthcare board. Clare is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and recently became a trustee of Macmillan. Clare’s healthcare career began in 1999 when she joined a private healthcare company as managing director. As a member of the senior executive team and in addition to running 36 private hospitals, she oversaw hospital, childcare, wellness and primary care businesses. In 2007 Clare led the sale of various private hospitals to private equity investor and created Limited company, a business she ran as chief executive until early 2008.

"Later in 2007, Clare was appointed as a special advisor to the Board for a leading Spanish private healthcare company. In 2008 she was appointed to the Board for a Scandinavian health and care provider offering primary, community and acute healthcare services as well as social care support to the elderly and children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Clare has been involved with a number of private healthcare provider industry groups, having been chair of the Independent Healthcare Association and a director of the Independent Healthcare Forum.

"Clare’s earlier career started on a management training scheme for a national airline, undertaking a variety of roles prior to being appointed managing director in 1990. She led the airline as managing director for seven years."[2]
