Charlie Lenegan "has been with Rio Tinto since 1981 and had, until his appointment in 2004 as Managing Director, Rio Tinto – Australia, worked in various Group operating businesses. He is responsible for Rio Tinto’s corporate activities in Australia and is a board member of various Group companies including Energy Resources Australia Limited, Coal & Allied Limited and Rio Tinto Marine.

"Mr. Lenegan is a board member of the Business Council of Australia, Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia and President of the Australian Mines and Metals Association. He is also co-Chairman of the Australia-Indonesian Trade & Investment Framework Exports Group.

"From 2001 until February 2004 Mr. Lenegan was President Director of Kelian Equatorial Mining, a large scale gold mine in East Kalimantan which ceased operations in 2005. Mr. Lenegan had previously held senior roles in Rio Tinto in its diamond, coal and salt businesses in Australia, Indonesia and Zimbabwe." [1]
