Charles B. Wade was a Vice President of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and was a Tobacco Institute Executive. He held various positions at R.J. Reynolds between 1958-1980.

Biography

Charles Wade was a R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company vice president and senior vice president.

Wade was born circa 1914-1915 and was a North Carolina native. Wade graduated from Duke University in 1938.(WP 7/19/94). Wade held various positions at RJR during the time he worked for the company: Director for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. 1955-1980, Personnel Director from 1956-1958, Personnel Manager in 1959, and Vice President from 1960-1970.(Source: R. J. Reynolds Summary - R.J. Reynolds Liability Notebook). Wade served on the Board of Directors 1960-1974; as Senior Vice President 1975-1976; Vice President 1960-1969; and resigned, July 1976 due to corporate scandal.(Source: R.J. He held various positions at RJRT, including supervisor of manufacturing, personnel manager, vice president of personnel and pubic relations, and senior vice president and Board member in 1958. In 1970, Wade became a director of R. J. Reynolds Industries. Wade had originally requested that Paul Sticht join the RJRT/RJRI board circa 1972? Wade was secretary of the holding companies R. J. Reynolds Industries International Advisory from 1975 until his retirement in 1980. Wade was a director of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, a former chairman of the Duke University Board of Trustees, and a trustee of the Duke endowment. He retired in 1980. Wade died on 7/16/94 at the age of 79 in Durham, North Carolina. (Barbarians at the Gate, 1990)(WP 7/19/94).
