The Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education (CTCRE) is housed in the Kalmanovitz Library at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). It was created to provide a focal point for research to reduce the estimated 5 million deaths worldwide each year that are caused by tobacco and the tobacco industry. The Center's work encompasses policy and historical research, economics, and science and is designed to inform and improve the effectiveness of public health interventions to reduce tobacco use. The Center works closely with the UCSF Library's efforts to collect, preserve and make public the previously secret tobacco industry documents, such as those available at the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library.
