Carlo Trojan

Carlo Trojan is the former ambassador of the European Commission to the WTO. He is also the chairman of the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council since 2008, and has been a member of that organization since 2007.

"Carlo Trojan studied Law at the University of Leyden specializing in European and International Law. He started his professional career as legal adviser in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in the Netherlands. He joined the European Commission in Brussels in 1973 as Deputy Chief of Staff of Commissioner Lardinois (Agriculture). In 1977 he was Agricultural Counselor at the Dutch Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. In 1981 Mr. Trojan became Chief of Staff of Frans Andriessen, Vice-President of the European Commission dealing successively with Competition Policy and Agriculture. In 1987 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission to become Secretary General in 1997. His last posting was in Genève (2001-2007) where he acted as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the European Commission to the WTO and other International organizations. In that capacity he was the EU Negotiator in the WTO Trade negotiations (Doha Round). Presently Mr. Trojan is member of the Dutch Advisory Council for International Affairs and of the Dutch Energy Council. He is Professor of International Trade and European Studies at the Maastricht School for Management and associated with the Chair for International Trade and Regional integration at the University of Barcelona.[1]
