Learn more about corporations VOTING to rewrite our laws.

C. Gene Whisnant is a state legislator in Oregon. He is a Republican who has represented District 53 since 2003 in the State Assembly. He is the Co-Chair of the House General Government and Consumer Protection Committee.[1]

Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

Whisnant is the Oregon State Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) as of 2011.[2] In August 2011, he was given ALEC's 2011 Legislator of the Year Award.[3]

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. In July 2009, during the height of the anti-Obama health care reform backlash, Whisnant signed onto an ALEC letter opposing the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, which would be signed into law in early 2010.[4]
