The British Association of Private Security Companies was launched on February 9th, 2006 "by leading members of the private security industry under the chairmanship of Andrew Bearpark to promote, enhance and regulate the interests and activities of UK based firms and companies that provide armed security services in countries outside the UK." [1]

In October, 2005, before BAPSC officially organized, Bearpark, who was the former director for reconstruction and infrastructure at the CPA, said, “We will have a charter and standards. We want regulations — preferably our own, but we want to work with the government on this. We want to provide the highest level of assurance — an ISO 9000 sort of standard — that customers can rely on. This is a big and increasingly important industry. The old days are gone.” [2]
