Brian Katulis

Brian Katulis "is an expert on survey research, democratization, and political parties. He is Director of Democracy and Public Diplomacy at the Center for American Progress, where he directs studies of U.S. foreign policy and democracy promotion, including support for political parties, with a particular emphasis on the Middle East. He is also an independent research analyst. For ARD and USAID, he conducted an assessment of political parties and and directed a national survey and set of focus groups on public attitudes towards democracy and human rights in Bangladesh. Mr. Katulis also has conducted public opinion research on human rights and democracy in Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Serbia, and Ukraine for Freedom House and on political parties and public attitudes in Iraq for NDI. From 2000 to 2003, he was Senior Associate at Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research. Mr. Katulis has also served on the Policy Planning Staff at the State Department, as a fellow at the National Security Council, as a program officer for NDI, and as an executive policy analyst for the Governor of Pennsylvania. His opinion pieces have appeared in such publications as The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The Miami Herald.

"Mr. Katulis has a BA in History from Villanova University and a MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Jordan and is fluent in Arabic."
