Bobby Godsell
Bobby Godsell joined the Board of Anglo American "on 18 March 1999. He is a member of the S&SD Committee and has been with the Group since 1974. He is chief executive of AngloGold Ashanti and has been chief executive of its predecessor company, AngloGold, since 1998. He is chairman of South Africa's national business organisation, BUSA, and a past president of South Africa's Chamber of Mines." [1]
"Mr Godsell has been a member of the Board since September 2011. Mr Godsell has over 30 years’ experience in the international mining sector and brings valuable industry and leadership insight to the Board. His other roles include: Chairman of Business Leadership South Africa, a director of Platmin Limited and Solar Capital. He is also Non-executive director of the South African Industrial Development Corporation. He is a member of the South African National Planning Commission and co-Chairman of the South African Millennium Labour Council. His previous roles have included President of the South African Chamber of Mines, Chairman of Eskom, Chief Executive of AngloGold Ashanti, a director of African Barrick Gold and Chair of the board of Optimum Coal Holdings, acquired by Glencore plc. He has a BA from the University of Natal and MA from the University of Cape Town." [2]
He serves as co-chair, with Zwelinzima Vavi, of the Millenium Labour Council, a social dialogue body involving business and labour leaders, and chairs the board of the private Catholic University St Augustine’s. Bobby is married to Gillian, who is a research psychologist, and has three daughters.
