Bob Fuller

Bob Fuller "has had four distinct careers in as many decades. After attending Oberlin College, and getting a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University, he taught at Columbia University. While finishing a book on mathematical physics at the Battelle Seattle Research Center, he started a course for drop-outs in a local ghetto high school and began writing about education. This led him back to academia and to the presidency of Oberlin where he instituted a series of educational reforms that drew national attention. After Oberlin, Bob traveled extensively, coming to rest in California, where his third career— "citizen diplomacy"—took shape. "Private citizens must take responsibility for creating peace themselves," he believes, and this work has taken him all over the world—to the Soviet Union, China, India, South Africa, the Middle East, South America, Ireland, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Somalia, and recently, Bosnia. His current career as author/activist revolves around his book, Somebodies and Nobodies: Overcoming the Abuse of Rank.
