Biographical Information

"Barbara Klugman specializes in researching, training, supporting and evaluating civil society and donor efforts to contribute towards social change, particularly in relation to sexual and reproductive health and rights. Barbara was an anti-apartheid activist and continues to work in support of social justice. For ten years she directed the Women’s Health Project in South Africa which played a key role in building support for progressive policies on gender equality and sexual and reproductive rights as part of the new democracy. For 6.5 years she was a senior Program Officer at the Ford Foundation in New York, managing the Foundation’s international sexual and reproductive health and rights portfolio. Barbara holds a BA Honours (Development Studies), an MA (Social Anthropology) and a PhD from the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa where she is an Associate Professor. Barbara has published extensively. She has lived with Willie Currie for 25 years and two dogs, Jethro Baggins and Lili-Pad; and a grown son, Paul." [1]
