The Australian Marine Conservation Society "is the voice for Australia's coasts and oceans. As a national charity, we work with local communities to create marine national parks, protect our ocean wildlife and make our fisheries sustainable." [1]
"The Society was established by a group of CSIRO and Queensland University scientists in 1965. At the time their primary concern was the depletion of fish stocks and the potential impact of human activities on coral reefs. Initially, we were called the Queensland Littoral Society (QLS)." [2]
