Anthony Alvarado "received national recognition for his innovative leadership while serving as superintendent of Community School District 2 in New York City, and and as chancellor of instruction for San Diego City Schools. As the superintendent of District 2, Alvarado created a model for successful district wide education built on a program of focused and intensive professional development of teachers. In 30 years as an educator, he has been a classroom teacher, principal, superintendent, and chancellor in the New York City public schools. He has also served as a board member of the Consortium for Policy Research in Education, and review team member for both the ATLAS project at Harvard University and the Rockefeller Foundation's professional development initiative among his many positions.
