Anthony Bubalo
Anthony Bubalo "is a Research Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy in Sydney, Australia. His principal research interest is the politics of the Middle East. Key themes of his work include Islamism, democratisation and Middle East-Asia linkages. Major publications include, with Dr Greg Fealy, 'Joining the Caravan? The Middle East, Islamism and Indonesia'. He comments regularly on Middle Eastern issues for Australian and international media outlets.
"Before joining the Lowy Institute Anthony was an officer in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for some thirteen years. He has served in Australian diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia and Israel and was Senior Middle East Analyst with the Office of National Assessments from 1996 to 1998. From 2002-2003 he was a director on the Australian government's Iraq Task Force, and immediately prior to joining the Lowy Institute Anthony was DFAT's Senior Speechwriter. " [1]
