From 1992: "Anees Barghouti, an economist and businessman originally from Deir Ghassaneh in the West Bank, is the new director of the Palestine Affairs Center in Washington, DC, Al Fajr reports. Barghouti has been active in a number of voluntary and charitable organizations in the U.S., including the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, the United Holy Land Fund, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the Association of Arab American University Graduates, and helped found the Palestinian-American Friendship Organization and Roots, a Palestinian youth group. He replaces Hassan Abdel Rahman who, after a decade as head of the Washington office, will become director of the Palestine Mission in Canada. The Palestine Affairs Center, originally called the Palestine Information Office until it was closed in 1987 by then-Secretary of State George Shultz, currently operates under the auspices of the Arab League."
