Biographical Information
"Andrew Phillips has been President of the Citizenship Foundation since his retirement as Chairman in October 2000, a post which he held since setting up the organisation in 1989.
"He qualified as a solicitor in 1964 and in 1970 founded Bates, Wells & Braithwaite, London, of which he was Senior Partner until 1998. He continues as a partner.
"In 1971 he co-founded the Parlex Group of European Lawyers and co-founded and Chaired the Legal Action Group, a legal aid charity. He is also President of the Solicitors' Pro Bono Group that he co-founded in 1996.
"On top of all this Andrew has been an original board member of the National Lottery Charities Board, a member of the Lord Chancellors Advisory Committee on Legal Aid, presenter of LWT's London Programme in the early 1980s, and legal adviser ('Legal Eagle') on BBC Radio 2's Jimmy Young Show since 1976. In 1997 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for establishing the Citizenship Foundation and for his work with young people and the law. He has been a working Life Peer (Liberal Democrat) since 1998. " [1]
