Adolf Hitler (April 20, 1889 - April 30, 1945) was the self-proclaimed Fuhrer of Nazi Germany. Hitler was leader of the "Nazi" (National Socialist German Workers') Party, Chancellor of Germany and was head of government as well as state. The military-industrial complex he helped create pulled Germany out of a post-World War I economic crisis and, at its height, controlled the greater part of Europe. The regime he led, however, also caused the deaths of millions and the displacement of millions more. Hitler, a gifted orator with powerful personal presence, is regarded as one of the most significant leaders of the 20th century. In the end he died by his own hand with his "Thousand Year Reich" in ruins around him.[1]
