Franz Fiedler was born in 1938, studied meteorologie in Frankfurt am Main (then West-Germany) and received his degree from the University of Munich in 1968. He is a retired professor [1] at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) and form 1978 to 2003 he was leading the 'Institut für Meteorologie und Klimaforschung' (IMK; in English the 'Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research') which is related to that university. [2]

Fiedler was one of the speakers at the conference in Leipzig in November 1995 organized by the European Academy for Environmental Affairs and the Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) which resulted in the Leipzig Declaration on Global Climate Change. His speech was about ozone problems at the earth surface. Unlike most other speakers of that conference, he didn't sign the 'Leipzig Declaration' or the Oregon Petition.
