The Lockheed Martin Corporation, according to the company's web site, is "an advanced technology company ... formed in March 1995 with the merger of two of the world's premier technology companies, Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation."[1]
Lockheed Martin is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and "employs about 125,000 people worldwide." The company is "principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services."[2]
Nearly 80% of Lockheed Martin's customer base is with the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. federal government agencies. "In fact, Lockheed Martin is the largest provider of IT services, systems integration, and training to the U.S. Government. The remaining portion of Lockheed Martin's business is comprised of international government and some commercial sales of products, services and platforms."[3]
