Consumer Technology Association (CTA)

The Consumer Technology Association, formerly the Consumer Electronics Association [1], is a Washington, DC-based trade association which lobbies on behalf of large technology corporations such as Intel, Bose, Boingo, Amazon and others[2]. During the 2016 election cycle, the group spent $579,189 in political contributions[3].

Twentieth Century Fox, formerly known as News Corporation[[7]], has a seat on their board of directors.

Policy priorities

Drones: CTA is a member of the Federal Aviation Administration's UAS Registration Task Force and Micro UAS Aviation Rulemaking Committee, and uses the platform to "encourage local and state governments to avoid creating conflicting federal laws that would encumber innovators, confuse the public and limit growth." [4] It encourages people to become "Drone Defenders."

Hearing aids: CTA supports a piece of legislation[5] co-sponsored by Sen. Grassley (R-IA) which would move personal sound amplification products into the same regulation category as hearing aids and make them available over the counter. This legislation has been referred to as the "Bose Bill"[6] on Capitol Hill, as the consumer electronics giant Bose stands to benefit financially from its passage.
