Virgin Group
"Conceived in 1970 by Sir Richard Branson, the Virgin Group has gone on to grow very successful businesses in sectors ranging from mobile telephony to transportation, travel, financial services, media, music and fitness.
"Virgin has created more than 300 branded companies worldwide, employing approximately 50,000 people, in 30 countries. Global branded revenues in 2009 exceeded £11.5 billion (approx. US$18 billion). " [1]
In October 2010 the Financial Times reported that "Sir Richard Branson’s brains trust that is his new senior advisory committee gathered for their first business dinner at the Covent Garden Hotel last week. The Virgin Group’s chairman Peter Norris and chief executive Stephen Murphy (BGF) updated the committee, which is led by M&A veteran Claudio Costamagna, who is also Virgin’s senior director. Former Bupa chief Val Gooding, Tony Blair’s former adviser Lady Morgan, telecom executive William Morrow, ex-Cadbury chief Todd Stitzer and Sir Richard Sykes, senior director of ENRC, make up the rest of the team who are expected to gather several times a year to offer advice from their various vantage points."
