RR Crops Edit

Hi Jill. Miocene here. Yikes! Not sure what to say, Where did it all go? There was a ton of info on that page which took a long time to gather. While I absolutely appreciate your work could I suggest that we revert to the former page and perhaps add it more carefully or better yet since the page is already long revert and create a side page for your more detailed stuff (updates to old info though is good as you suggest)?

Just as a note, my editing style has been to minimize the nitty gritty details of every single little thing ever written about the company (for example the extended comments from Fraley), minuscule detailed history of Monsanto, various court actions ((there have been thousands!))) and focus instead on the main points as there are already plenty of details about them to fill space and kbs, the truly important stuff. Already the main article is long and many side articles have had to be added to flesh out these points. If we want to further flesh them out perhaps attached side articles to the side articles would be best. I mention this because I've noticed others in the past adding long winded details about individual court decisions etc. There is also a problem with repetition (for example my article about Rbgh and some of the same stuff added about it to the main page by someone else) which cumulatively end up taking up a lot of space. I've been tempted to go through it and take some of it out but haven't. I sort of burned my self out on the subject after years of work and have resisted but I should as it needs a going over and cleaning up. Anyway, I try to keep things brief and succinct; nail a point in as few words as possible. As you can tell if you've read the articles I do like direct quotes as support too. But it would take an Britannica sized encyclopedia if we put every single thing not absolutely relevant in.

Even though I wrote them I've always been cognizant of the fact that those articles are not my baby but belongs to the community. Just to mention though do you know that the previous RR Controversy article has been on the "hot topic" list for awhile? I believe that's because people in California have an important vote coming up in November, a little more than three months from now, on the labeling of GM foods and many were going to the article for information. So I'm not so sure this was the best time to remove all that and start from scratch. I know that it needs some updating but honestly there is a lot of info there (for example the Herbicides in Your Food, and Harm to Wildlife sections) that is, I think, very important. There are many cites to scientific journals on the page and I endeavored over the years to make the article as accurate as possible. I'm not kidding when I say that a LOT of work went into that page and the ret of the Monsanto series. I checked everything out as best I could. If there are falsehoods I am not aware of them. You'd be surprised BTW but the activist sites are often accurate. Perhaps you might give the RR Controversy page a read first? Anyway, it sounds like CMD is behind you so feel free to go for it. A suggestion that occurred to me: I mentioned the labeling initiative coming up in November and that I'm not so sure this is a particularly good time to remove that article and leave stub in its place. As it looks like it's really in the beginning stages why not take the time to write your new article, then after the election you can make the replacement?

BTW, I am aware that there is a lot of misinformation on both sides, I did my best to winnow out the untruths though. But keep in mind that with a company as notoriously litigious as Monsanto, these articles have stood the test of time. Also be aware that there are a lot of scientists in their employ who are less than truthful. Anyway, Best. Miocene 09:03, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
