Thomas E. (Ted) McNamara "most recently served as the president and CEO of the Americas Society and president of the Council of the Americas...

"He came to the Society and the Council after a distinguished career in government that included service as assistant secretary of state (1994-98), ambassador to Colombia (1988-91) and for counterterrorism (1993-94), and special assistant to the president for national security affairs (1991-93). While assistant secretary for political military affairs he was also the special negotiator for Panama, attempting to establish a Multinational Counternarcotics Center there. In 1993-94, he led a task force on Latin American participation in Haiti peacekeeping, and over a fifteen-year period he headed special delegations to Argentina, Ecuador, Canada, and Honduras as well. His overseas postings, besides Bogota, included Paris, Lubumbashi, Bukavu, Moscow, and Kinshasa, the last as deputy chief of mission.
