Thomas L. Ogburn, Jr. was Vice President of Public Issues for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco USA, the domestic tobacco subsidiary of RJR Nabisco, Inc. He was responsible for communications programs on public issues as well as the company's smokers' rights efforts.
Biography
Ogburn joined Reynolds Tobacco in 1968 in the marketing development department. After numerous assignments and promotions, he was promoted to director of brand research in 1977. Ogburn moved to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International, Inc. in 1980 as director of marketing research worldwide. He was promoted to Area I and II marketing director in 1981 and later became director of marketing for all established markets for Tobacco International. He returned to the domestic tobacco company in 1985 as director of public issues in July 1987. Ogburn was a past president of the Easter Seal Society of North Carolina. He served on the board of directors of Horizons Residential Care and was president of the Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter of Davidson College. He is also past chairman of the board of Centenary United Methodist Church and a member of the Statford Rotary Club of Winston-Salem, NC. A native of Winston-Salem,Ogburn earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Davidson College at Davidson, NC, and a master of business administration degree in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ogburn married the former Anita Hauser and had two children.[1]
