A terrorism analyst is an individual who studies terrorism and terrorist groups. He or she may operate in one or more of the following professional capacities:

  • as a member of a think tank
  • as a journalist
  • as an employee of a security risk management consultancy
  • and/or as an academic.

Ed Herman and other critics of such "analysts" call the terrorism pundits "terrorologists", and refer to the black propaganda they produce "terrorology"[citation needed].

Terrorism analysts are frequently called upon for comment by media organisations. For example, M. J. Gohel and Sajjan M. Gohel of the Asia-Pacific Foundation were widely quoted in the UK and international media in the aftermath of the July 2005 London bomb attacks[citation needed].

Some terrorism analysts have been accused of having a hidden agenda[citation needed]. An example is journalist Steven Emerson of [[MSNBC][citation needed]].
