Spacegrit -- need some references on key bits of this. Worth noting too that the saga was covered exetensively in the then National Times in Australia. -- bob

the majority of the information i used for this is from Al McCoy's book. He cites Jonathan Kwitny's book as a source in this section. Armitage is not mentioned in McCoy's and I referenced him differently. I am happy to make this more reference secure as it is a foundation in a greater theme and pattern (the role of banking and the military in the drug trade; the excuse of fighting communist and protecting national interests, yet exposing the very people who make up the nation to a violent epidemic).

As it stands, all the information i used can be found in those three pieces. Armitage has a questionable history which I would like to see more clarified. Any suggestions for clarifying the references are welcome. I would also assume there was more news about this in Australia than in the U.S. at the time and am interested in seeing the articles in the then National Times.

McCoy makes reference to an Australian Federal Police-New South Wales Police Joint Task Force investigation, and I think there may have been a Royal Commission too. I'm an Australian but I've got no idea how to track them down. Another McCoy book, 'Drug traffic : narcotics and organized crime in Australia' is also about this. The wikipedia page for Nugan Hand Bank lists 'Sleight of Hand : The $25 million Nugan Hand Bank Scandal' by a J. Owen in the references. Lamont Cranston 01:54, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

Found the Royal Commission and the existence of a 3rd government inquiry: http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A150582b.htm Lamont Cranston 03:20, 2 July 2008 (EDT)
