Talk:Iraq Coalition Casualty Statistics/External Links (May-December 2003)

Okay .. need help with my math ..

On 30 October 2003 -- "US Iraq deaths exceed war toll. The number of US troops killed in hostile action in Iraq since President George W. Bush declared major combat over on 1 May has exceeded those killed during the war itself" -- the statistic was such that the post-conflict death count (115) had exceeded the "actual" conflict death count during "hostilities" (114) in Iraq ... a total of 229.

However, the Dover Air Force Base Mortuary count as of November 24, 2003, stood at "294 combat deaths and 130 noncombat deaths." (Total = 424)

If my math works here, that makes 65 combat deaths in less than 30 days (10/30 to 11/24)! Did I miss something?

However, Global Security shows a total of 426 combat deaths (March and April 141 and May to present 287). The web site does show the death count for November (to date) as 64. (See Iraq Coalition Casualty Statistics for counters.)

Perhaps the "most accurate" counter comes from lunaville.org, which shows 76 U.S. fatalities in November (as of November 23rd) (count appears to lag by a couple days) .. with a grand total of 434.

There seems to be a wee bit of a discrepancy between the Dover AFB count (424), which should be the most accurate, and both the lunaville (434) or Global Security counts (426).
